A large number of villagers of Dhinkia and Gobindpur, the sites of the proposed Posco project in Jagatsinghpur district, who sustained injuries in a clash with the police forces on Saturday, are a harried lot because of the non-availability of proper health services.

Besides, the threat of arrest by the administration has dissuaded the injured people to step out of their villages for treatment.

The locals do not even dare to visit the nearby drug store to purchase medicines apprehending police arrest.

Many villagers, who were seriously injured by the police firing and lathicharge, have remained bed ridden.

Ranjan Swain, an anti-Posco leader said that nearly two hundred people including women were injured by police firing and lathicharge and many old men and women are struggling with their lives due to serious injuries.

Sabita Dei, a 60-year old woman who had sat on dharana on the day of the clash, stated that her two legs have been fractured due to the police attack.

“My husband and two sons have been seriously injured and they are now in a critical condition but I have no money to treat them”, said another woman.

Other injured persons pointed out that police forces have been deployed at Trilochanpur and Balitutha as a result of which they are unable to move out for treatment.
