Assam credit potential at Rs 3,255 crore

The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has assessed a total credit potential of Rs 3,255.96 crore for the financial year 2010-11 for Assam. The top priority has been accorded to the agriculture sector for which the credit plan size has been projected to be Rs 1,315.77 crore, followed by Rs 514.24 crore for non-farm sector and of Rs 47.77 crore for the food processing sector.

The Focus Paper for Assam for the coming financial year, released on Thursday, stated that the bank would aim at 100 per cent financial inclusion by providing access to financial services to the weaker sections. The bank, the Focus Paper added, would target 100 per cent financial inclusion by 2015.

 

Agriculture, financial inclusion, development of rural infrastructure, food security would remain the thrust areas of the bank in the next fiscal in Assam.

NABARD, under its Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF), had till 31 December 2009 sanctioned assistance to the extent of Rs 1523.68 crore for rural bridge projects, major and minor irrigation projects, rural road projects among other infrastructure projects.
