The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASSOCHAM) is planning to bring investment worth more than Rs 1 lakh crore in the state of Chhattisgarh.

“We are organizing an investors’ meet on May 17 and 18 in which participating companies are likely to ink memoranda of understanding worth Rs 1 lakh crore with the state government,” ASSOCHAM Secretary General D S Rawat said here today.

The special focus of the meet would be to invite companies in the Information Technology (IT) and real estate as both the sectors have good potential in the state, Rawat said, adding that the food processing and herbal industry also have good scope in Chhattisgarh. The ASSOCHAM Secretary General said that they were confident to bring an investment of Rs 1 lakh crore through cluster development.

“The Chief Minister, Raman Singh has hinted that the state now wants non-polluting and smaller units and the clusters planned by the ASSOCHAM meet the parameters,” Rawat said.

The Chamber has recommended to the state government to build 17 additional clusters in the state. It believed that each cluster has potential of atleast 1000 units with employment opportunity of around 10 persons per unit.

Rawat said that it was expected that such facilitation could create more than 400,000 direct and indirect jobs in the state by assisting these new clusters and interconnected it with each other including existing clusters.
