Taking the recent attacks on Indian students in the country seriously, top Australian officials, including the Prime Minister are discussing ways to improve the situation for overseas students, including Indians.
Foreign minister Stephen Smith said the Government was concerned about the attacks on the Indian students, and it was taking the issue very seriously, according to an ABC report.
Today's meeting will underline Australia's concern about the events and make sure that Indian students feel safe and are confident about Australia as a destination.
He said a delegation from here was in India."The aim of it is essentially exchange of information and communication — we don't want Australia to be viewed only as a place of some terrible and tragic incidents, which we've condemned," Smith said.
"We are very generally a safe society we welcome not just Indian students but all students from other countries."
"We've been working closely with the state authorities, particularly Victoria and New South Wales and their police authorities to make sure that the perpetrators are brought to justice," he added.
