Australia is keen to provide skill development training in mining, sports, retail, hospitality and tourism sectors in the state through tie up with industry partners.
“We are bringing the Australian education providers having the course content in mining development and have tied up with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to bring the industry partners needing these skills,” said Nicola Watkinson, Senior trade and Investment Commissioner, South Asia of Australian Trade Commission on the sidelines of a seminar — Sports Industry and the Need for Skills Development — organised by CII-Odisha.
“By working together, we need to develop the course so that the students trained are placed directly with the companies,” she added.
“We are also exploring other areas like hospitality training, retail training, tourism training. The model is based on finding local delivery partners and bringing in Australian expertise and course content into the country,” she said.
Sports Development and Education Australia (SEDA) and city based Centurion University of Technology and Management today signed memorandum of agreement for providing skill training in sports. The pact was signed between Brad Green, founder and chairman, SEDA and Mukti Mishra, President, Centurion University.
“The course, Sport and Wellness Management will be an elective course to all existing programmes that spans from two months to four years. We are hoping that in a year’s time, we will offer sports diploma, advanced diploma and a sports degree,” said Mishra. SEDA will shape the course and provide skills and practical experience to participants to prepare them to work in sport and fitness industry.
According to an industry report, about three million jobs will be created in the fitness, gym and wellness sector in the country by 2016.
As part of the agreement, the University will establish a Sports Skills Training Centre in the state, which will be the first in India to use wide ranges of sports, fitness, wellness and lifestyle courses with a focus on applied learning and development of vocational skills.
The international cooperation agreement inked by SEDA and Centurion University of Technology and Management will allow students from disadvantaged communities to access international standard vocational training in sports education and management, read an official release.
