The Sterlite industries has deferred its decision to transfer all senior officials of the Bharat Aluminium Company (Balco) from New Delhi to Korba plant.

Company sources told Business Standard that the new Balco management has deferred the decision till 23 July.

Sterlite Industries had recently ordered transfer of about 45 executives to Korba, which had evoked a sharp reaction from the employees union.

All the executives from Delhi were to report at Korba plant today. However, the marketing department was excluded from it. The decision to defer the transfers was taken after a meeting between Balco managing director S C Krishnan and employees here.

According to sources, Krishnan assured the officials that they would be given options such as VRS and permission to ask for withdrawal of transfer order on personal grounds.

The employees union had alleged that such as a mass transfer would vitiate the already tense atmosphere in the company after the disinvestment of government
