One person died of suffocation in a fire at Bangalore airport on Wednesday morning, disrupting incoming and outbound flights for about four hours, officials said. |
The fire broke out in the kitchen of a restaurant at the airport around 2.30 am. Fifty nine of the 60 employees managed to escape before it was extinguished, Bangalore Airport officials said. |
"The restaurant employee, who was found unconscious, was taken to the hospital where he died," they said. |
Flight operations, suspended due to the smoke in the terminal, were resumed around 8 am. About six flights were delayed, officials said. |
Fire brigade sources said seven fire tenders, including six of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, were pressed into service, to put out the fire. |
