Bank credit card becomes proof for travelling on e-ticket

In a passenger friendly move, Railway Ministry has begun accepting credit cards issued by banks with laminated photograph as proof of identity for travelling on e-tickets.

The new provision came into effect on August 6.

The bank credit card is in addition to the existing proofs of identity required for undertaking journey on e-tickets including voter I-Card, passport, PAN card, driving license, Photo I-Card issued by Centre or state government, said a senior ministry official

Student I-Card with photograph issued by recognised school or college for their students and Nationalised Bank Passbook with photograph is also being accepted as identity proof by railways.

 

Railways has asked all of its zones to issue necessary instruction to all concerned staff, particularly those in the ticket checking department, so as to educate them about this modified provision and to avoid inconvenience to passengers.
