The Madhya Pradesh Bank Officers Association (MPBOA) has published a list of defaulters of various nationalised banks, which includes names of large business houses of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Because of these big defaulters the non-performing assets had increased to Rs 2,117.17 crore and Rs 142.60 crore in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, respectively.

The list included only those names from whom banks have to realise over Rs 1 crore, said Alok Khare, president of the All-India Bank Officers Associa-tion, here yesterday.

NPAs of nationalised banks and other financial institutions on 31 March 2001 stood at Rs 80,246.46 crore against 12,090 accounts, Khare said.

To highlight the increasing non-performing assets, the United Forum of Bank Unions has decided to organise a protest in Parliament on November 27 and submit a memorandum to President A P J Kalam.
