Lashing out at the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal, CPI general secretary A B Bardhan on Monday said no tangible work was being done in the state and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was only making a plethora of announcements in the name of bringing about change.
"There is only announcement after announcement and there is no tangible work in West Bengal under the present leadership ... Things which never happened when Left Front was in power are happening now," he told newsmen here.
"About 26 farmers have taken the extreme step of committing suicide ... There is no number available on the recent baby deaths in West Bengal," he alleged.
CPI, he said, will thoroughly evaluate the performance of the Mamata Banerjee government.
In reply to a question, Bardhan said CPI wanted CPI-ML to be a part of the Left Front but for this the party should abandon its anti-CPI and anti-CPI-M stance.Bardhan said his party would take initiatives to forge unity with other Left and regional parties as an alternative to Congress and BJP in the national level.
