Marxist veteran Jyoti Basu's son Chandan Basu today said he felt bad about the rumours being spread about the health of his father, who was critically ill in a hospital here with pneumonia.

"Our family members are feeling bad about the rumours being spread about his health, especially by some websites. I request the media not to spread such rumours," Chandan told reporters at the private AMRI Hospital at Salt Lake after visiting his 95-year-old father.

"His condition has improved. A bronchioscopy has been done and the result is good. His other health parameters have also improved. I hope he will be all right," he said.

CPI-M politburo member Biman Bose who also visited the hospital, said rumours about Basu's health should not be spread.

Film actor Mithun Chakraborty, after visiting Basu, said he was responding to medication.
