The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) would soon come out with energy conservation guidelines for large industries. These would include cement, steel, textile, aluminium, fertilisers, pulp, railways and power stations.
Talking to media on the sidelines of the two-day Power Conclave on Northern Region states in Chandigarh, the Director General of Bureau Of Energy Efficiency Ajay Mathur said that the BEE has decided to take initiatives in three directions.
Under the energy saving drive at government outfits, 280 buildings have been identified. All the municipal corporation would be included under the energy saving drive of the Bureau Of Energy Efficiency.
Andhra Pradesh has been able to achieve complete replacement of conventional lamps with the CFL lamps and Haryana should do it by the end of this year.
The first was the labelling of the consumer durables that was earlier discretionary would now be mandatory. All kinds of motors, tube lights, transformers and refrigrators would now adhere to the guidelines of BEE.
He explained that Energy Service Companies are being hired to save the energy at the large Government buildings.
"Honeywell was hired to save energy at the President House in New Delhi. The company invested about Rs 50akh and saved power to the tune of Rs 49 lakh in the first year. Similar projects were on in other government buildings. These companies are hired under the performance contarct and et paid for energy saving."
Under the energy saving drive at government outfits 280 buildings have been identified on the basis of the respective states, he added. He apprised that all the municipal corporation would be included under the energy saving drive of the Bureau Of Energy Efficiency.
Gautam said that the seriousness of the efforts for energy saving can be aguged from the fact that the sales of the CFL (compressed florescent lamp) increased from 20 million in 2002 to 120 miilion in 2007 across India.
He added that the Andhra Perdesh has been able to achieve the complete replacement of conventional lamps with the CFL lamps and Haryana should do it by the end of this year.
