The West Bengal government is aiming for a 25 per cent share in the national revenue from the IT sector by 2015 and the new IT policy, which is in the final stage of preparation, would help to achieve the same, state's IT Minister Partha Chatterjee said today.

"We are setting a target to achieve 25 per cent of the national revenue from IT sector by 2015," Chatterjee said here at an event in Cognizant's Bantala campus.

"We have already set up two committees, one on software and another on hardware under Sam Pitroda, Kiran Karnik and many other experts in the sector to draw a roadmap to make the target a reality," Chatterjee said.

The minister said the state will set up various IT hubs in other major cities of the state.

"Steps for IIIT had already been initiated and waiting for Centre's approval. Technology university is also coming up in Kalyani and these steps are aimed at creating a pool of talent in the state to support the industry's growth," Chatterjee said.

However, the industry needs to grow manifold in order to meet the target.
