Keeping an eye on elections to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP), due in the next few days, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday announced a largesse for Bengaluru city.
“The state government is determined to comprehensively develop Bengaluru city which has brought international recognition to the state,” he said while presenting the state Budget for 2015-16. A total provision of Rs 4,770 crore has been made for the BBMP, BWSSB and BMRCL, including budget and other resources for the development of Bengaluru city.
An amount of Rs 2,878.72 crore has been provided to the BBMP by the government for taking up various development works during the last two years. During this year, Rs 1,000 crore under Chief Minister’s Nagarothana scheme and Rs 391.06 crore out of the grants of state and central financial commissions will be provided, he said.

Six units will be functioning under programmes for effective management of solid waste in Bengaluru city that are formulated and being implemented through Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation (KUIDFC). With the commencement of these new units, the capacity for processing of 2,800 tonnes solid waste per day at a cost of Rs 270 crore will be created in Bengaluru city, Siddaramaiah said.
The government also intends to distribute 5,000 residential sites at the proposed Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout, the work for which is under progress. Applications will be invited before end of March 2015 and during the next financial year these sites will be allotted to citizens, he said.
The first phase of Bangalore Metro Rail project will be completed by the end of 2015. The land acquisition process, utility shifting and process of tendering of civil works are in progress for the second phase of Bangalore Metro project, he said.
As a first phase of the work of bringing 500 million litres per day water from NBR to Bengaluru city, work of laying of water pipeline up to T K Halli reservoir is taken up. It is proposed to take up the work of replacing 50 kms of sewer trunk. It is proposed to construct 7 new sewage treatment plants with a capacity of 150 MLG at Hebbal, K R Puram, K & C Valley, Doddabele and Bengaluru University areas, the Chief Minister announced in the budget.
It is proposed to procure 50 solid waste removal machines at a cost of Rs 10 crore.
