Yashwant S Bhave today took over as the first chairperson of the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA), which is likely to start regulatory functions in the next few months.
The authority was constituted recently for economic regulation of airport infrastructure. Under the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India Act, 2008, AERA will determine tariffs for aeronautical services, including air navigation services, at all major airports, as well as fix development fees and passenger service fees.
The authority will also monitor service standards at these airports and ensure that airport charges are calibrated so as not to unnecessarily burden airlines and passengers.
Bhave is a retired 1972-batch Indian Administrative Service officer. He is a masters in public administration from Harvard University. His last posting was as secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs.
