Soon Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC)-run Vadilal Sarabhai Hospital will become the biggest general hospital in the country managed by a civic body.
The governing body of the AMC's Medical Education Trust on Tuesday approved the bids for the Rs 331 crore multi-store, multi-speciality hospital building. The new building complex will have three towers with 19 floors each (including two levels of parking). It will also have one helipad on the top of the tower for emergency cases.
The 1450-bed new facility will come up in the 23 acres area of the hospital compound which already houses a 1155-bed hospital, emergency and trauma center, radiology department, blood bank and other important facilities for critical care. The grant for the new facility has been obtained from the Chief Minister's Swarnim Urban Development Programme.
With the addition of the new hospital building, the Vadilal Sarabhai Hospital, popularly know as V S Hospital, would become the biggest general hospital in the country to be run by a municipal corporation.
"As per the present data available, after the new complex comes up, VS Hospital would be the biggest general hospital in country run by a civic body," AMC commissioner Guruprasad Mahapatra said. This would also be the first 70 meter high multi-speciality general hospital made with state of the art steel structure construction technology, he added. The new facility will have 900 general beds, 222 super speciality beds, 128 ICU beds and 200 paid beds.
