Violence continued in Bihar today with students indulging in arson and vandalism at several places as Biharsharif observed a complete bandh against the killing of an examinee in Mumbai. The attack on the student, who had gone to Mumbai for a railway board exam, was allegedly carried out by the activists of the Maharashtra Navanirman Sena (MNS), which has been campaigning against north Indians.
Scores of protesters ransacked the railway station at Motihari, the headquarters of the East Champaran district, and smashed glass doors and window panes of reservation and ticket counters before setting a police jeep ablaze, Superintendent of Police NH Khan said. Khan said the protesters also damaged kiosks and eateries on the platform and damaged a fire tender. He said the police had to baton-charge. “The situation is completely under control with the arrival of CRPF reinforcements,” he said.
Biharsharif, the headquarters of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s home district, Nalanda, observed a complete shutdown to protest against the killing of Pavan Kumar.
Protesters and police clashed at several places in the town, Superintendent of Police Vineet Vinayak said.
