Bihar to focus on hospitality sector

State govt has commissioned several projects to develop tourist destinations under Buddhist, Jain and Ramayana circuits

With more than a million foreign tourists visiting Bihar, the state government has now decided to put more focus on the construction of infrastructure for hospitality sector. The state government has recently commissioned several projects to develop tourist destinations under Buddhist, Jain and Ramayana circuits.

According to the data of the state Tourism Department, 1.09 million foreign and 22.5 million domestic tourists visited the state in last year.

"We are very happy with the increasing numbers of foreign tourists," said Tourism Minister Sunil Kumar Pintoo, "It reflects the growing acceptance of Bihar on the world tourism map. Till few years ago, not many people could gather strength to visit Bihar. However, today we are among the top seven states to have large number of foreign visitors. Our government's constant efforts on improving law and order and governance are now paying off."
 

The minister added, "We have substantially increased the budget of Tourism Department. This year we will be spending more than Rs 105 crore for the construction of infrastructure in the hospitality sector for the comfort of foreign and domestic travelers."
