Bihar will be power sufficient by 2015, says minister

Reiterated resolution to connect every village in state with electricity in next few years

Bihar will be a power sufficient state by 2015, state Energy Minister Vijayendra Yadav today told the state Assembly. State government has also reiterated its resolution to connect every village in the state with electricity in next couple of years.While replying to his department's supplementary demand of Rs 724.67 crore, the minister said that Bihar will have access to 5,300 MW of power by 2015 to meet domestic demand.

"The crisis period is now over. This is time for improvement and it will be visible from next financial year. Today we have access to almost 2,000 MW of power. This is more than double of what was available to us in 2005-06. By August, 2014, our availability would be 2,600 MW and by August, 2015, we will have access to 5,300 MW of power," Energy Minister Vijayendra Yadav told state assembly.
 

Stating that the ruling Janata Dal (United) or JD (U) government is on the threshold of fulfilling Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's promise of connecting every village with electricity by the end of the second term of his government, he said the trust is now on putting in place distribution and transmission infrastructure.
