BJD MLA arrested during polling in Orissa

A BJD MLA was arrested from near a polling booth in Patkura in Orissa's Kendrapara district for allegedly disturbing polling.     

Police said a group of ruling BJD workers led by Rourkela MLA Sharada Prasad Nayak tried to create disturbance at booth no. 222 at Talakusuma under Patkura assembly constituency at around 11.15 am.   

Annoyed at this, local villagers gheraoed the MLA following which police used batons to free him.     

"We have arrested Nayak under provisions of the Peoples' Representation Act. The incident is being investigated," said Kendrapara Additional Superintendent of Police, Kumarmani Meher told PTI.      

The car used by them has been seized.     

There are reports of minor disturbance in at least six other polling booths in Patkura assembly constituency where BJP stalwart Bijoy Mohapata is locked in a fierce battle with BJD heavyweight, Bed Prakash Agarwal.
