Alleging that the JD(S) had a "tacit understanding" with Congress in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, the ruling BJP in Karnataka today said that the party's move to support the formation of UPA in centre has proven it.
"The JD(S) move to support UPA government had proved that it had a tacit understanding with Congress in the just concluded Lok Sabha elections to defeat the saffron party," party State unit President D V Sadananda Gowda told reporters.
But both, JD(S) and Congress, were rejected by voters who gave a mandate in favour of BJP with the party winning 19 out of 28 Lok Sabha seats, party State unit President D V Sadananda Gowda told reporters.
JD(S) state chief H D Kumaraswamy has said that his party, part of the Third Front in the polls, was ready to support UPA and be part of government "provided Congress is keen" on it.
JD(S) had won three seats in the elections including that of Kumaraswamy and his father and party chief former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda.
Sadananda Gowda, who won in Udupi-Chikmagalur, described BJP's victory as an "yet another milestone in its history" and said it was 'positive votes and not negative votes'.
BJP's vote share has been steadily increasing since 1999 from 27.18 per cent to 42.23 in this election whereas that of JD(S) has come down to 13.3 per cent from 21.69 in 1999.
