BJP today blasted Governor H R Bhardwaj for his comments on the party-led government in the state and said it would confront the Centre on the issue in the coming session of Parliament.

“The governor definitely crossed ‘Lakshman Rekha’,” senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu said here. “As per the constitutional provisions and norms, the Governors have no business to publicly express their opinions against the elected State governments where they serve.” “BJP will take up this issue in the coming session of Parliament and confront the Central government about the functioning of the governor,” he said.

Naidu slammed Bhardwaj, a former Union law minister, for his comments such as “How can I disown my party?; proud to be a Congressman; there is a jungle raj in Karnataka; the Chief Minister had his own problems from the brothers who had dictated their terms to him (Yeddyurappa) and brought him to his knees”. “Can a Governor speak like this? This is the way opposition speaks, not the Governor. He has no mandate to make such comments against the elected government,” he said, claiming that the country is stunned by his utterances.

“The present Governor has come out in direct conflict with the popularly elected government and has made uncharitable and uncalled for comments on the popularly elected chief minister. The Governor has no right to air his views and grievances publicly,” Naidu added. Referring to the Opposition demand for a CBI probe into the illegal mining scam, he said it’s politically motivated.

Naidu alleged that the Congress over the years has demolished the credibility of the premier central investigating agency. “It has always used and misused CBI,” and converted it into a “political arm of the ruling (Congress) party,” he charged.

“What is happening here in Karnataka including the dharnas and the outbursts of the Governor both in Bangalore and in Delhi, and the subsequent actions of the Governor and the reactions of the spokespersons of the Congress Party, are all part of larger political conspiracy of destabilising the popularly elected BJP government,” he alleged.
