The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday demanded a national policy on encounter killings after CBI arrested former Gujarat minister Amit Shah in the 2005 killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh in an alleged staged shootout. BJP President Nitin Gadkari said it was high time there be a national debate and a policy handling encounter killings or else officials would stop acting against terrorists even if they needed to, which would put the nation at risk.
