Flaying the UPA regime for its handling of the economic issues, terrorism and internal security, BJP president Rajnath Singh today reiterated his party’s commitment to revive Indian economy if BJP came to power at the Centre.

“We will infuse life in the economy. BJP-led governments are scripting new success stories by displaying unwavering commitment to create an atmosphere conducive for investment, industrialisation and equitable growth. The success of Narendra Modi-led government in bringing Nano unit from West Bengal to Gujarat is a shining example of the party’s commitment to development,” he said while addressing a press meet here today.

The BJP chief said the UPA government has been at the helm for the past 42 months and during this period the regime has only pushed the country towards ‘stagflation’. “By stagflation, I mean that on the one hand inflation rate is increasing and on the other hand, growth has stagnated. This is a result of the economic mismanagement by the present government. UPA’s theory that the current situation is a result of US meltdown is only partially true because the present scenario could have been avoided had the government taken adequate preemptive measures,” he said.

Stating that prices of essential commodities have not come down in spite of repeated assurances by the Finance Minister and the Prime Minister. “The Budget deficit of the country has already reached $36.5 billion, a key indicator of UPA’s gross economic mismanagement,” he said.

Turning the heat on the UPA for its handling of terrorism, Singh demanded a national consensus on terror. “BJP believes that a terrorist has no religion and he should be treated as a traitor. If the government is serious in waging a war against terror then it should have good co-ordination with the states and it needs to come up with a joint strategy on each and every level of policing and investigation,” he said.

Citing the case of neighbouring Pakistan, Singh said, “Countries which became notorious for supporting terrorism in the name of jihad are also feeling its heat now. According to media reports, Pakistan has started the process of mobilising public opinion against terrorism and is trying to build a national consensus over the issue. The Punjab government of Pakistan has even convened a special Assembly session to discuss terrorism. On the other hand, UPA government is busy indulging in votebank politics,” he said.
