Even as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the trust vote in the Karnataka assembly for the second time in three days, the party continued with its demand to recall state governor H R Bharadwaj. Senior leaders accused Bharadwaj of ‘extra-constitutional activities’ to destabilise the state government.
Soon after winning the vote today, the BJP said the numbers proved the Karnataka government was stable. “We have come back again and this is indeed a historic moment for Karnataka and for the BJP. The floor test in the assembly in Karnataka conclusively proves the BJP stand that it has a majority there,” said Rajiv Pratap Rudy, the party spokesperson. “Even if we presume that on October 18, the court allows the Independent MLAs to vote, we would still have 106 MLAs and the vote of the Speaker, that would give us a majority in a House of 213 members.”
Meanwhile, continuing with its demand to recall the governor, the BJP again alleged “he was acting as an agent of the Congress”.
“The victory of the BJP does not exonerate the Governor of his actions which he has done last week and in the last few months. His role is still under the scanner for his unconstitutional acts. In order to have stability in Karnataka, it is important that the government should recall the Governor immediately,” Rudy said.
Adding: “Our friends in the Congress were earlier talking about majority but now they have shifted their stand and are talking about morality. This proves we have won. The BJP has proved its majority in the house on October 11 and on October 14.”
