Congress, the main party in Opposition in Chhattisgarh, has alleged that the ruling BJP is taking decisions that favour major industrial houses.
Initiating discussion on the state's annual budget in the legislative assembly on Tuesday, Congress MLAs alleged that the state government has taken crucial decisions in favour of industrialists.
“Selling a dam in Janjgir-Champa district and proposing an airstrip at an unfeasible location in Kabeerdham district are recent examples that justify the allegation,” Mohammed Akbar, a Congress MLA said.
“The government claimed austerity but its act does not exhibit it,” he added.
Akbar claimed that a dam was sold to one private-sector power company in Janjgir-Champa for setting up a mega power plant.

The clarification of the state government that the dam was of not much use and alternate arrangement for irrigation has been made for villagers is not true, he added.
“What was the need of selling a dam and later dismantling it?” Akbar questioned the state government. The dam could have been used for re-charging ground water or providing water for the Rabi crop, the Congress member said, adding that the campaign of the state government for water conservation has turned futile with the selling of the dam.
The Congress member charged that an airstrip proposed at Kabeerdham is for convenience of industrialists and was a waste of tax-payers’ money.
Chief Minister Raman Singh is expected to respond to Congress' allegation at conclusion of the budgetary discussion.
