Monsoon session: BJP gears up for counter-offensive

Prepares a list of seven scams that have allegedly taken place in Congress-ruled states of Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala and Uttarakhand in recent years

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has prepared a list of seven scams that have allegedly taken place in Congress-ruled states of Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala and Uttarakhand in recent years to hit back at the main Opposition party.

The BJP strategy, to unfold in Parliament in the coming days, has been devised to put the Congress on the defensive, after it disrupted the Rajya Sabha proceedings on the first day of the Monsoon session, demanding ouster of BJP chief ministers of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and Union external affairs minister.

The Congress kept up the clamour that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj face a probe and resign while the investigation is on. All that the government was willing to offer was a discussion.

There was some confusion in the Congress ranks initially when the BJP agreed almost instantly to a discussion and a statement by Swaraj at a time of the Opposition's choosing.

BJP'S HITLIST FOR CONG AND TRINAMOOL
  • Solar scam in Kerala
  • Bar bribery scam (Kerala)
  • Water scam in Goa during Congress government
  • Water project scam in Assam
  • Flood scam in Uttarakhand
  • Farmer suicides in Karnataka
  • Alleged involvement of Himachal CM Virbhadra Singh in steel scam
  • Tuktuki kidnap/human trafficking in Bengal
  • Saradha chit fund scam in Bengal
