The government today managed to save itself from the cut motion, but Prime Minister Manmohan Singh faced allegations of breach of privilege for announcing outside Parliament his decision to reject setting up of a joint parliamentary committee on the IPL controversy. Fifty BJP MPs jointly moved a breach of privilege notice in Lok Sabha against the PM.
The CPI(M) too joined the fray and slammed the PM for his remarks outside Parliament while it is in session. “The demand for a JPC was made inside the two Houses. It is very wrong on the part of the PM to comment about it at the sidelines of a programme. We also think it is a breach of privilege,” CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury told reporters. The CPI(M), however, did not move a separate motion, as multiple privilege motions are not accepted on one issue.
