The central leadership of the BJP is in a dilemma over the resignation of an office-bearer of the partys youth wing.

The party has forced him to quit, but are now chary of accepting the resignation.

The leadership apprehends that relieving Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha vice-president Vijay Jolly from the post may snowball into a controversy as it would be construed as an attempt to punish a person who was instrumental in filing a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Delhi High Court against alleged corruption by the Sahib Singh Verma government in Delhi.

The dilemma has become all the more acute since sections of the partys central leadership are alleged to be involved in the multi-crore hawala case.

Jolly is the head of a forum called the Delhi Study Group, which filed the PIL against the Delhi government, alleging that former civil aviation minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, former lieutenant governor PK Dave, and Chief Minister Saheb Singh Verma acted arbitrarily in giving clearance to the controversial Park Royale hotel.

The petition also claims that there was also an attempt to bribe former Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana while in office.

The petition has widened the rift between Khurana and Verma who, in any case, have not been on good terms ever since the latter succeeded Khurana as Delhis Chief Minister. Since Jolly is considered close to Khurana, Verma has reportedly concluded that the petition has been inspired by Khurana to malign his image and ease him out of the chief ministership.

Jollys action has not been to the liking of other party leaders as well, who impressed upon party president LK Advani to intervene, and asked BJYM president Uma Bharati to secure Jollys resignation.

Vermas supporter and party vice-president KL Sharma is reported to have asked Jolly to withdraw the PIL in order to put a lid on the controversy.

Party sources said Jolly has met the Chief Minister, Sharma and general secretary Kushabhau Thakre, and explained that he had nothing personal against Verma and that he was only trying to raise an issue in the belief that Congress leaders like Azad would be exposed if the study group wins the case.

The party leadership has not been able to decide what to do. Uma Bharati refused to comment on the fate of Jollys resignaion.
