The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today joined Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha demanding Union Home Minister P Chidambaram’s resignation.

The BJP alleged that he was a beneficiary of the 2G spectrum allocation and sought his removal from the Manmohan Singh Cabinet. The BJP leadership said it was clear from the recorded conversation between former telecom minister A Raja and corporate lobbyist Niira Radia that Chidambaram was a not only received money in the 2G spectrum scam. “Chidambaram had written a letter to Prime Minister saying that the 2G issue was over. Neither can he act against Maoists, and policemen are getting killed everyday. He has lost all moral authority to remain the home minister after it has become clear that he had received money in the 2G case,” said party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar.

The BJP also attacked the Union government for “shielding” Textile Minister Dayanidhi Maran. Senior party leaders said Maran should not be allowed to continue in office following allegations thathe had forced former Aircel owner

C Sivasankaran to sell his business to a Malaysian company during his tenure as the telecom minister between 2004-2007.
