BJP's Karnataka unit leaders on Sunday observed a fast, as part of their nationwide protests against the arrest of Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi.

BJP national general secretary Ananthkumar and state unit leaders, including party president Jagadish Shettar, squatted near the Mahatma Gandhi statue at a busy traffic junction in their continuing protest.

The party leaders had on Saturday submitted a memorandum to governor T N Chaturvedi deprecating the arrest, alleging that attempts were being made to denigrate the Hindus. They also sought President A P J Abdul Kalam's intervention to put an end to the 'ill treatment' of the seer.
