The BJP today remained silent on the death sentence handed to Saddam Hussein.

BJP sources said any reaction on the Iraqi court verdict on Hussein could be now counter-productive for the party politically.

"Hailing the death sentence could leave an impression about being pro-US and opposing it is not going to expand our political constituency," a party source said today.

In 2003, the BJP, then in power, and other political parties had condemned the US invasion of Iraq.
