BJP on mkt crash: Allow panic to settle down

On Day 2 of the stock market meltdown, BJP has decided to take a measured approach to the crisis with no demand for the resignation of Finance Minister P Chidambaram. Instead, party president Rajnath Singh has asked party workers to wait at least for a week and "allow the panic to die down."

Former MP Kirit Somaiyya, who had taken a tough stance on Monday after the markets fell significantly, seems to be alone in taking such a stand. Party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad was more restrained. "We are concerned about small investors, and feel that the regulatory bodies should step in to protect their interests," he said.
