The BJP leadership has proposed to give more subsidies to marginal farmers and waiver of interest on loans to small and marginal farmers to combat the drought condition.
A committee headed by BJP general secretary Rajnath Singh to study the drought and flood conditions in the country has given its report to BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu. The report suggested that the government should monitor the prices of oilseeds, pulses and cotton, arranging substitute fodder, transport drinking water and commissioning of tubewells.
Although the committee met only thrice since its inception, the extensive report also outlines certain long-term measures.
