The BJP has sought a CBI inquiry into the recent tender for wheat import by the government. |
In a statement, party leader Prakash Javadekar said the cancellation of the tenders in May 2007, under which wheat was to be supplied at $263 per MT, and placing an order in July for $320-360 per MT "is a big scandal". |
The party asked why the government let the market know that India was going to import 5 million tonnes of wheat as early as March 2007 when the world prices of wheat were high, knowing fully well that this would trigger a rise in prices. |
