Piqued by the repeated attacks by Karnataka Governor H R Bhardwaj, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today said it would soon launch a campaign seeking his removal and dared him to act against a list of “the corrupt” that he had claimed to be possessing.
“After completion of this month’s Zilla and Taluk Panchayat elections in the state, the party will undertake a ‘Hatao Governor’ campaign seeking Bhardwaj’s recall,” BJP National Working Committee member Vamanachar told reporters here. His comments came a day after Bhardwaj said he had a list of corrupt people, “particularly the ministers”, in the state and offered to share it with those interested.
“The governor has crossed all his limits. He can order a probe including by the Lokayukta,” Vamanachar said in reply and dismissed Bhardwaj’s allegations against the government as “baseless”. He said the stir against Bhardwaj would be spearheaded by senior state leaders of BJP along with top central leaders, who would also meet President Pratibha Patil seeking his removal. Meanwhile, Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily today called on Bhardwaj. Moily, whose meeting with Bhardwaj lasted for about 45 minutes, declined to share details with the media. The meeting comes a day after the Governor said he had a list of corrupt people, including some ministers.
‘Waiting for documents’
Expressing surprise over the governor’s claim that he has a list of corrupt people, including ministers, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today said he was awaiting its release.
“The Governor should have called me and discussed such matters before disclosing any information. I am really surprised about his acts. I will meet him tomorrow and discuss with him if he has any problems,” he told reporters here. Yeddyurappa, whose government has come under repeated critical comments by Bhardwaj, said “I am waiting for the Governor’s documents regarding his statement that he possesses information about tainted ministers in my cabinet.”
“Perhaps Law Minister Veerappa Moily who met the Governor today, must be knowing full details about it,” he said. In the escalating war of words with the BJP government in the state, Bhardwaj had yesterday said he has a “list of corrupt people, particularly ministers”, in the Yeddyurappa cabinet and had offered to share it with those interested.
