The party did not field a single Muslim for the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year, nominating Hindus even in the Muslim-majority valley.

The party will focus on Centre-state relations and regional imbalances in development in its election campaign. It will seek to explain its demand to revoke Article 370 in this context, a party spokesperson said yesterday.

She said the party was in favour of giving more powers to states, but opposed granting a special status to any. The party is opposed to the demand of the National Conference to return J&K to its pre-1953 status.

The BJP will contest 12 of the 26 assembly seats for which elections will be held in the first round
