Assuring his party's support on key financial legislations, senior BJP party leader and chairman of a Parliamentary committee scrutinising economic bills Yashwant Sinha today said it is the government which needs to put its house in order.

"The Finance Minister (Pranab Mukherjee) has talked to our party and we said most of these (bills) are from our time. So we will support, but you (government) need to put your house in order," he said at a meet organised by FICCI here.

Sinha, a former Finance Minister and chairman of the Standing Committee on Finance said, "On all these bills and any future bills, the BJP as a party will be ready to extend support to the government with some minor adjustments here and there...We will not be found to be wanting. There will be no act on our part to stop legislation, provided we work in a truly bipartisan spirit".

However, he added, it is the duty of the government and not Opposition to get the bills passed.

The government has not been able to push key economic reforms including FDI in retail, insurance and pension bills because of opposition from its key ally Trinamool Congress.

"We had the same coalition partners, the same two difficult partners, but we had a Prime Minister (Atal Bihari Vajpayee) who could manage the coalition", Sinha added.

The committee, Sinha said, had on March 9 submitted its report on the DTC Bill and will make efforts to finalise the report on Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill at the earliest.

Mukherjee, had said the government would try to get at least 3-4 economic legislations, on which the Committee had given reports, passed in the ongoing Budget session.

Besides DTC, the Committee had submitted its report on the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority Bill 2011, Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill 2011 and Insurance Laws (Amendment) Bill 2008.
