Former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee yesterday said that the verdict of the people in the various polls held recently showed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would come to power at the Centre after the next general elections.
Speaking at a function here to commemorate the partys recent success at Punjab assembly elections, Delhi civic polls and the byelections at Chhindwara and Nagore, Vajpayee said
that the 13-party coalition led by H D Deve Gowda has betrayed the hopes and aspirations of the people. Launching a scathing attack on the package announcements by Gowda, he said that these alone would cost the government exchequer Rs 70,000 crore and lack of resources would lead to unfulfilment of these promises.

Terming the budget as inflationary, Vajpayee said that it did not have the basic foundation and people would soon be subjected to a hike in the petrol and diesel prices as the oil pool deficit had not been taken care of.
He said that keeping in view these, even the Congress was in a fix whether to support or oppose the coalition government.
Criticising the present state of governance in Uttar Pradesh, Vajpayee said,
