The BJPs plan to raise a corpus of funds from its members and sympathisers may not become successful in view of senior party leaders reluctance to accept the coupons issued to them for the purpose of collecting funds.
These party leaders have expressed their inability to collect such donations on the ground that they have not been actively involved in running party affairs and hence have lost touch with those who could be the possible donors.
They have asked treasurer Ved Prakash Goyal to take back the coupons and save them from the embarrassment of failing to collect the amount expected from them.
Though no target has been fixed, a member ofthe BJPs national executive is expect to collect a fund of at least Rs 10 lakhs for the current financial year.
The party plan to collect Rs 30-35 crore for the current financial year. The coupons have also been issued to the various state units.
The BJP had decided to take annunal donations from its sympathisers in the amount of Rs 10,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 1,000 in order to protect the party from industrialists and other individuals who donated large sums of money on a quid pro quo basis.
The decision to take donation in such amount is an outcome of the party leaders efforts to make political donations transparent and the party more accountable, BJP vice-president Jana Krishnamurthy said.
The coupons, whcih are in three differenet colours, have space for mentioning the names of donors and collectors with their addresses.
