Among the major zones to receive formal approval, which is the last stage before an SEZ is notified, is Reliance Industries's 440-hectare multi-service zone at Gurgaon, Haryana. With this, RIL has received formal clearance for two of the five SEZs it proposes to set up. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The 2,850-hectare Rewas Ports Ltd zone, in which companies owned by RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani and close associate Anil Jain have a 51 per cent stake, was given in-principle approval, the second-last stage in the approval process.

A commerce ministry official said the Rewas SEZ would be considered for formal approval as soon it gets possession of land. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
"The Rewas zone is significant because that is where the Delhi-Mumbai industry corridor will terminate," the official said. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Around 200 freight trains are expected to ply through the railway corridor between Dadri and Rewas. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Another significant zone approved formally is GMR Infrastructure's 101-hectare SEZ, which will be linked to the airport that the company is constructing in Hyderabad. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The board also formally cleared VGTM Urban Development Authority's 16-hectare infotech services based zone at Guntur, the first SEZ to be developed by a municipal body. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
In-principle clearances "" given to SEZs that have not acquired land "" were given to Gitanjali Gems's two zones at Nanded and Nashik, PSL Ltd's 105-hectare zone at Amreli, Gujarat, dedicated to alternative energy and DLF's textile-based 100-hectare zone at Dankuni in West Bengal. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
