Booth Rigging Marks Orissa Polls

Ballot paper snatching by Naxalites, clashes between political rivals and allegations of rigging at some places marked the first phase elections in Orissa yesterday. The state election office here said a moderate 60 per cent turnout was recorded in this round in which 70 constituencies in western and southern Orissa went to polls. Details of voter turnout from some remote areas had not reached the state election office.
