BSP today lashed out at Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi for blaming the Uttar Pradesh government for power and water shortage in the state.

It could have been better had he (Rahul) used his influence on the Central government to help the state get its rightful share, BSP said in a statement here.

Blaming the Congress for the dismal power scenario, BSP spokesman claimed it was result of apathetic attitude of successive Congress governments in the Centre.

Giving an account on the power generation capacity added in the state since independence, the spokesman said that of the 8600 MW being generated by the central power unit, the state was getting only 2600-2800 MW.

"Rahul should have helped the state get all 8600 MW generated in UP by the central power units as the state was ready to purchase it," he said, adding that 24-hr power supply can be provided if the Centre gives 12,500 MW to Uttar Pradesh.

On the power problem in Amethi, the spokesman said it was getting more power as compared to other districts of the state.
