Though BSP leaders say there is no threat to the alliance, since the Congress has no other option, BSP chief Kanshi Ram is said to be unhappy that Rao is no more at the helm of the Congress, since he wants the Congress to bring in upper caste votes for the alliance.
He also prefers a weak Congress, which he can maneouvre, and thinks that a Rao-led Congress is his best bet for a national alliance.
Ram had praised Rao for resigning, his associate said, and intends to raise this issue during his campaigns.
Rao has resigned from the post before he was chargesheeted but Advani is not doing it even after charges have been framed against him in the hawala case,
