The West Bengal government has raised the budgetary allocation to state PSUs for 2012-13 by Rs 17 crore, Commerce and Industry minister Partha Chatterjee said on Wednesday.

Replying to questions in the assembly, Chatterjee said that during 2011-12, the state government had extended support of Rs 22 crore to five state PSUs.

Later, Chatterjee told reporters that the amount had been raised to Rs 39 crore during 2012-13. He said that funds had been allocated to these units for their revival and to make them competitive in the changing business environment. Chatterjee said that if the government ever took a decision to close down any unit, it would consult all stakeholders including the Opposition. Referring to closed MAMC in Durgapur, Chatterjee said that he would write to the Centre for the three shareholders, CIL, DVC and BEML to sign the agreement and pave the way for reopening of the closed unit.
