This brings the relief in Bhagalpur case at par with that announced for the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Delhi and other parts of the country by the UPA government.

In its meeting today the cabinet also decided to pay a compensation of Rs 2.25 lakh to 22 persons who were injured in the riots, that had erupted between two religious communities during a religious celebration.

Earlier, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has asked the Centre to raise the relief for the Bhagalpur victims.

While the relief in case of the dead persons would be in addition to the amount already paid by the Bihar government, for the injured people it would be inclusive of the relief already paid.
