The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today approved development of a project for four-laning of the Hospet-Bellary-Karnataka border section of the National Highway-63 in Karnataka at a cost of Rs 1,621 crore.

The 95.3 Kilometer project will be commissioned on Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis under Phase-IV of the National Highway Development Project (NHDP).

"It is estimated that 4,076 mandays are required for construction of one kilometer of highway. Employment potential of 388,728 mandays will be generated locally during the construction period," an official statement said.

It added the project is aimed at expediting infrastructure improvement in Karnataka and reducing the time and cost of heavy traffic plying on the Hospet-Bellary section of NH-63.

The development of this stretch will also help in uplifting the socio-economic condition of the concerned regions of the state and increasing the employment potential for local laborers in project activities.
