Having struck huge reserves of oil in Western Rajasthan, Cairn Energy has identified 18 new points for further exploration in the Barmer-Sanchore basin, company officials said today.

The new points have been identified in the Gudha Malani area in Barmer district, and the work on drilling of wells will begin soon, they added.

The company is planning to drill wells in Sindhasan, Bardi, Judi and Padarli bordering Jalore district, which is a part of the Barmer-Sanchore basin, officials said.

The company has already drilled more than 50 wells in Gudha Malani, Sindhari, Bayatu and Sheo areas of Barmer district.

Oil was struck for the first time by the company at Malion ki Dhani near Bhakharpura Gudha, but the well was capped as the reserve was very low. The company also located oil in wells drilled in Mage ki Dhani, Gudha Nagar, Koshalu, Madal and Namana.

Rich reserves were found in wells S-1 and S-4 in Koshalu and A-1 in Namana. The three reserves have been named Saraswati, Rameshwari and Mangala.
