The Calcutta High Court on Friday granted bail to R S Agarwal, a director of Advanced Medicare and Research Institute (AMRI), who was arrested after a mishap at the hospital’s Dhakuria unit on December 9 which claimed 91 lives. However, other four directors — R S Goenka, Ravi Todi, Prashant Goenka and Manish Goenka — were denied bail on Friday.
Though Agarwal was arrested on December 9 only, he was shifted to a private hospital and later to SSKM hospital, on medical grounds.
This comes after the 92-year-old Dr Mani Chettri, a government nominee in the board, got bail recently on medical grounds.
The tragedy at AMRI Hospitalhad claimed 93 people died after inhaling poisonous smoke from a fire. All the accused in the case have been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and negligence.
