Call for higher private-public sector role in ports

 He was in Gujarat on a day-long visit to Mundra Port, the first private sector port in the state.

 According to Sinha, the Sagar Mela scheme of the shipping ministry envisages setting up of a huge maritime infrastructure along the coastline with public-private sector participation.

 Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani, managing director of Adani Port Sanjay Gupta and Nikhil Naik, chief executive officer, Mundra International Container, welcomed the minister at the port.

 The minister was apprised of the berthing, handling and storage facilities created at the all-weather, multi-purpose port.

 Mundra Port, with the deepest draft on the western coast, boasts of an integrated mechanised bulk handling system unparalleled at any other port in the country.

 The minister gave an overview of the Sagar Mala project to the officials.
